The last dog in a large group German shepherds seized by the BC SPCA this past summer has been adopted into her forever home.

Five-year-old Mira is the last of the 43 German shepherds seized by the animal welfare group to be taken into a loving home, according to a SPCA media release. She was adopted during the Christmas holidays.

Due to her previous, poor living conditions, Mira is anxious and wary of companionship from other dogs or people, but she is on medication to help ease her anxiety, the SPCA said in a Facebook post.

Of the 43 dogs seized from an unfit breeder in the Prince George area, 12 were puppies and 31 others, including Mira, were adults.

The breeder left the youngest puppies and their mom in a dark basement with a makeshift, plastic pool bed, lined with paper towel as the bedding.

Some other dogs were found in a confined space which had high levels of ammonia from urine. There was also water in some of the dog kennels, and no food.

The BC SPCA does thorough background checks on all potential owners with meet and greets with the animals and a brief education about the care each animal needs. Potential adopters then have 24 hours to decide if they want to adopt their chosen pet.

Mira spent over 144 days in the care of the SPCA waiting for her adoption.
