Large house fire contained in Kelowna yesterday

First responders were able to contain the blaze and no one was injured.

The Kelowna Fire Department contained a house fire in Rutland yesterday, around 2:30 p.m.

Fire crews arrived on the scene at Mallach Road to find a garage, part of the home, and nearby cars engulfed in flames, according to a press release from the department.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire, and searched the home to make sure no one was inside. No injuries were reported.

The Kelowna Fire Department responded with four engines, a rescue unit, a safety unit and a command unit, for a total of 21 department personnel.

RCMP, BCAS, and Fortis Electric and Gas, were called to the scene to assist firefighters.

First responders were able to contain the blaze so it did not spread to other nearby houses.

The department is still investigating the cause of the fire.

The Kelowna Fire Department advises people to regularly check their smoke alarms.
