A large fire at Vernon's Canadian Tire has caused significant damage to the outside of the building.
Vernon Fire Rescue Services responded to the call at the 4900-block of 27th Street just before 3 a.m., Nov. 19, according to a news release from the fire department.
Crews arrived to find a large outdoor fire, however it was burning inside of a locked compound, according to the release. Responders were able to quickly knock down the fire and gain access to the building to ensure it was completely extinguished.
“Additional firefighters were called in to support the on-site crews and respond to other calls,” deputy fire chief Alan Hofsink said in the release.
“There were 14 firefighters on scene, who were also joined by members of the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP and B.C. Ambulance Service.”
Damage to the exterior of the building is reported to be extensive, in addition to minor fire and smoke damage inside. No injuries were reported.
The fire has been deemed suspicious.
