JOHNSONS LANDING, B.C. - Officials in British Columbia say they are re-assessing their chances of finding two bodies which still remain missing a week after a massive mudslide hit the small community of Johnsons Landing.
B.C. Chief Coroner Lisa Lapointe says crews have been focusing their search on the areas around the homes which were destroyed in the slide, where they thought they had the best chance of finding four missing people.
Two bodies were recovered a few days ago, but Lapointe says work in those same areas has not yielded any results since.
She says that means crews will be looking at their options and evaluating their chances of locating the two remaining victims.
The safety of searchers has also been a concern as weather and the unstable nature of the slide pose a danger to crews.
The landslide barreled down a mountainside last Thursday and took out three homes overlooking Kootenay Lake in southeastern B.C.
Officials are cautioning the public to stay well away from the site as it still remains unsafe.
