Lake Country RCMP impounded 5 cars between Dec. 10 and 15 during community patrols.
Four of the vehicles were impounded for impaired driving, and one was impounded for excessive speeds, according to a press release from RCMP.
“Lake Country officers will be on patrol to ensure the roads are safe to travel and will be looking for anyone placing other travellers in danger,” Cpl. Ryder Birtwistle, Lake Country RCMP said in the release.
The spree of vehicle impounds began with a driver going 145 km/h on Highway 97. When the driver was pulled over there was evidence they had been drinking and their breath samples were above the legal limit. Their vehicle was impounded for 30 days and they were given a 90 day driving suspension.
The other impaired drivers were given the same 90 day suspension and 30 day vehicle impoundment.
The excessive speeder was caught going 112 km/h in a 50 km/h zone, and their vehicle was impounded for a week.
“We want everyone to enjoy the holidays being able to get to their homes and gatherings safely,” Birtwistle said.
