An Okanagan man discovered that driving a lawn tractor on city streets was not the road to greener pastures.

Central Okanagan Traffic Services and Lake Country RCMP responded Monday, April 27 at approximately 11 a.m to a complaint from the public about a man driving a lawn tractor on a residential street in that community, Cpl. Mike Halskov said in a press release.

"Police located the man, an area resident, who was driving toward his home on a 46 lawn tractor, having just come from a nearby liquor store," Cpl. Halskov said.

The man exhibited signs of impairment and refused to provide a breath sample, the release states. The man was served with a 90-day driving prohibition and the lawn tractor was impounded. Police also served the man with tickets for no insurance and no drivers licence.

"This is a reminder that impaired driving is illegal no matter what type of motorized conveyance is being driven the media release reads. "Police would like to thank members of the community for being vigilant and reporting this incident."

"BC RCMP Traffic Services would like to remind the public that COVID-19 is not an excuse to disregard the law," he said. "Please drive sober, obey speed limits, wear your seatbelt and drive distraction-free."
