LAKE COUNTRY – Police arrested a Lake Country man for an assault that seriously injured a woman this week.

The suspect was arrested the afternoon of April 22 after police were called to McCreight Road to investigate a report from a member of the public.

RCMP say in a media release officers arrived to find a “delirious and incoherent man” and a “severely beaten woman.”

Although the relationship between the victim and the suspect is not included in the release, Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says they knew each other.

“Our investigation led to the eventual arrest of that male,” O’Donaghey says. “The scene was secured by police who obtained a warrant to search the premises to gather evidence in order to advance their investigation.”

Lonnie Noel Smith, 39, has been charged with aggravated assault, unlawful confinement and uttering threats. He remains in custody with his next court appearance scheduled for April 27.

Anyone who may be able to provide investigators with any additional information is asked to contact the Lake Country RCMP at 250-766-2288.
