With the high number of crashes every year over the Labour Day long weekend, ICBC is asking drivers to do their part.

Every Labour Day long weekend in B.C., approximately four people die and 600 people are injured in 2,100 crashes, according to ICBC statistics. In the Southern Interior, 70 people are injured in 320 crashes every year on average.

The crown corporation asks drivers to share the road.

Police will be out over the long weekend with increased distracted driving enforcement, part of a month long effort to get drivers to put down their phones.

Here are some driving tips from ICBC:

  • Keep your phone out of sight and on silent mode while driving
  • Allow at least two seconds of distance between you and other drivers
  • Keep clear of RV and truck blind spots
  • Use Drive B.C. to stay updated on road conditions
