KidSport Kamloops Week coming up

KAMLOOPS - KidSport Kamloops is pleased to announce that the City of Kamloops has approved the request to make the week of Sept. 7 officially KidSport Week.

KidSport Kamloops is a local chapter of KidSport Canada. We are a not for profit organization that works to remove the financials barriers that otherwise prohibit a child from playing sports. Funds raised locally are spent locally and are distributed as grants to cover registration and/or equipment fees associated with participation in a season of
sport.

KidSport Kamloops has been helping kids since 2003 and give on average $50,000 per year to kids in need. Recent statistics show that about one in five families do not have the financial means to allow their kids to play organized sports.

The goal this year for the local Kamloops chapter was to help create awareness in the
community.

“So many families are still unaware that this program is available to help
them,” Scott Andruschak, Chair of KidSport Kamloops, says.

Last year KidSport helped 175 kids receive funding to allow them to play sports.

“So far this year we have helped 167 kids but our goal is 200.” the chair says. “We are hoping that with the City’s help of making Sept. 7 KidSport Week, We can create even more awareness to help us achieve our goal and to keep that number growing.”
