VERNON - If kids and wedding partiers want to unwind with spa treatments, crystal scrubs and massages at Sparkling Hill Resort in the North Okanagan, they'll be sorely disappointed.
The luxury $122 million resort in Vernon passed new rules for 2019; as of Jan. 1, children under 16 and wedding-related events are no longer allowed on the premises.
In a press release, the resort stated its primary goal is to create a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere for its customers. The restriction on children under 16 is aimed to enhance the soothing tone.
Before the new rule, children were already restricted from the resort's KurSpa treatments (Cryo Cold chamber, massages, etc.); the new rule expands the restriction to the rest of the resort.
"We don't see a lot of kids at the resort anyway," Sparkling Hills sales marketing manager Jacqueline Birk. "The decision was about health and wellness. With kids around it's hard to focus on your wellness."
Wedding revellers also face new limitations. Sparkling Hill will no longer host wedding ceremonies, receptions, or similar events. This restriction was made to preserve the resort's serenity.
Birk said the rule change decision was made over a year ago, adding that the resort only hosted one wedding last year.
