A traffic stop for expired insurance last night led to a seizure of drugs, weapons and a "kidnapping kit," according to Kamloops RCMP.

Police stopped the vehicle near Columbia Street and the Trans-Canada Highway yesterday, Sept. 22, around 10:45 p.m., and observed weapons inside the vehicle while dealing with the driver, according to an RCMP press release.

“Further investigation revealed what appeared to be a ‘kidnapping kit’ which included a ball gag, zap straps and duct tape," spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.

Weapons, cash and "numerous quantities" of suspected heroin, cocaine, crack cocaine and methamphetamine were also seized from the vehicle.

The driver was given a ticket because of expired insurance and the vehicle was towed.

The occupants of the vehicle were detained at the scene, but released as the investigation continues.
