KELOWNA - The Downtown Kelowna Winter Street Market and Tree Lighting returns for the 30th year.

The free community event on Saturday, Dec. 1 invites you and your crew downtown to help welcome the holiday season.

“On Water Street you can indulge in some festive sweets and treats, munch on some delicious street food, or sip your hot chocolate by a cozy fire. At Stuart Park you will find live entertainment, activities for all ages, crafts, outdoor skating, food, and we can’t forget Santa,” says Lacey Molyneaux, events and marketing coordinator for the Downtown Kelowna Association.

Once you’ve taken all that excitement in, finish the evening off by watching the lighting of the giant tree.

Santa will arrive at 12 p.m. at the Santa headquarters tent in Stuart Park. Photos will be available through Flash Frame Photo Booth. Pictures will then be available via email, text message, or printed onsite for $10. Meet and greets wrap up at 5 p.m., so you want to be sure you arrive well before to ensure you can get in line.

The man in red will make an appearance again around 5:55 p.m. for a quick word on stage. He'll then light the Stuart Park tree for the 30th year at 6 p.m.

Though the heart of this event is located at Stuart Park between the skating rink and the Kelowna Yacht Club, there are lots of additional things happening in the surrounding area. Because everything is close at hand, Molyneaux encourages people to leave the car at home and walk, run, bike or bus to the event. But if you choose to drive, there are lots of easy-to-find parking spaces and parking is free Dec. 1 and every Saturday in December, courtesy of the City of Kelowna.

Be sure to come say hello to the iNFOnews.ca crew who will be on hand near Santa's Headquarters. There will be games and treats for those who drop by.
