A couple whose long-distance love story went viral a few years ago is now living a life they never expected.

Tyson Noel met Mikki on a photography website when they were both in their teens. Tyson lived in Kelowna, while Mikki lived in Minnesota.

However, they didn’t let the distance stand between them, remaining friends for seven years before meeting for the first time in May, 2015.

Their relationship got the spotlight the following December when Mikki gave Tyson a briefcase with 22 sealed notes and packages each labelled for a time he might need them like when he gets home from a bad day.

The gesture touched the hearts of romantics online around the world and was picked up by national and international news sources.

After continuing their relationship long-distance for awhile, Tyson eventually flew to Minnesota and asked Mikki to marry him.

“It wasn’t even a year after we met that I proposed, and it didn’t feel fast for me,” Tyson said.

The couple knew they wanted to make their relationship work, and would do whatever they could to make it possible.

“I ended up moving down to Minnesota at the end of March 2017,” he said.

His 24-hour drive was an emotional journey, as Tyler had lived in Kelowna his whole life. But the couple never looked back, getting married in May that year.

“We’ve just sort of been living through our lives, and growing, learning all the different things that it takes to actually be together now,” he said.

“When we first met, it was like meeting my best friend. So just to continue on with that has been a fairly easy process.”

It gets even better. On May 2, 2020, Tyson and Mikki welcomed the birth of their first child, naming him Maxwell.

“He’s just a little bundle of joy so far,” Tyson said. “Things have been good.”

When they first met online, neither of them expected to spend the rest of their lives together.

“I had this fun, Canadian friend that I could talk to,” Mikki said. “We never imagined that we would meet, let alone date and get married and have a family together.”

"For everything to fall in place as quickly and as smoothly as it has over the years, I don’t think anybody could have expected that,” Tyson added.

After finally meeting in person however, they both knew they wanted a future together.

“It’s one of those situations where people say, when you know, you know,” Mikki said. “That’s exactly how it played out for us.”
