Kelowna's popular outdoor skating rink set to open this week

Outdoor skating resumes in Kelowna this weekend.

Kelowna’s popular outdoor skating rink in Stuart Park across from City Hall will open at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 1.

“The arrival of cooler weather ushers in the return of a beloved winter activity at Stuart Park,” Steve Hebden, recreation facility operations supervisor for the city, said in a news release. “Crews are working on getting the ice prepared, and we can’t wait to welcome our community back to the rink over the coming weeks.”

A still-image live cam is already up and running so people can view the ice-making process this week. Once the rink is open, the link can be used to check ice conditions and whether the rink is closed for weather related or maintenance reasons.

After Friday, the rink will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily except from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. Mondays when it will be closed for maintenance.

Skates will be available for rent (cash only) from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day except Christmas Day, weather permitting.

“All visitors to the rink are asked to abide by the rink regulations as posted on surrounding signs and are encouraged to wear helmets,” the news release says.
