For many years, Hein Road in Rutland has had a reputation of being home to some rough characters and criminal activities.
It’s a mix of houses, duplexes and row housing that are sometimes run-down and sketchy looking but a new development proposal might just give the neighbourhood a little spruce up.
On Jan. 21, Kelowna city council will be asked to approve a 24-unit, 4.5 storey apartment building on two lots at 365 and 367 Hein Road that now contain a duplex.
The public hearing to rezone the land was held about a year ago so council is only being asked to approve the form and character of the building with a couple of variances.
One variance would allow for more of the land to be occupied by the building than is allowed in the zone. The other calls for two fewer parking stalls in exchange for extra bike parking in secure indoor locations.
This is the duplex shown on Goggle Maps that will be replaced if the redevelopment is approved.
