Planet Lazer, a well-known Kelowna adventure spot, has some exciting news for Okanagan fun enthusiasts. It’s expanding—and bringing a brand-new Galaxy Zone Arcade and bowling area to Kelowna!

If you’re unfamiliar with Planet Lazer, the facility remains Kelowna’s go-to spot for epic laser tag adventures, arcade fun, and a wide assortment of game options. For over 20 years, Planet Lazer’s 6,000 square-foot facility has been an all-ages, go-to location for laser tag and fun games.

Kelowna’s Go-To Adventure Spot Doubles The Fun

With the addition of Galaxy Zone, Planet Lazer is set to double that fun! Since Planet Lazer already has a great reputation for memory-making outings, visitors can expect the same great service at the brand-new Galaxy Zone facility. With Galaxy Zone, Planet Lazer is effectively doubling the fun—adding new games for its customers. The two facilities are situated beside each other, with cards and credits linked between them, meaning customers can access both facilities at one convenient location.

The new Galaxy Zone offers an extensive arcade area with many new games, and something else that has been custom-designed for Kelowna’s fun scene: duckpin bowling. In this variation, everything has been re-scaled to maximize bowling fun. It’s still a 10-pin-based game, but the pins are smaller, the lanes are shorter, and the bowling balls resemble 5-pin bowling balls in shape and design. Those differences make for a completely different bowling experience, with one particular change drawing players to duckpin bowling: No need for different footwear!

Family-Friendly Bowling - Without the Hassle of Rental Shoes

In duckpin bowling, players use their own regular street shoes—meaning there is no need for rental shoes! No settling for ill-fitting shoes, and no sensory overload from old shoe odors. Players can stroll hassle-free to any of the four new lanes and bowl comfortably in their street shoes.

What Exactly is Duckpin Bowling?

Duckpin bowling is not a new sport; the governing body for duckpin bowling was established in the 1920s. At the new Galaxy Zone, the lanes will be a manageable 32 feet long, down from 60 feet in conventional 10-pin bowling. The balls do not have finger holes (and are substantially smaller than their brutish big brothers). Even pint-sized competitors can hurl a bowling ball and smash a strike.

Galaxy Zone also features a brand new arcade area, making for a complete adventure centre. You might notice the arcade games are a lower volume than most places; that is done on purpose and is all part of putting the clients first. Customer experience has been prioritized at Galaxy Zone, which is why the two facilities share card systems, point systems, and similar prize options. There is a customer-first approach, one that matches Planet Lazer. “We have always made the customer’s experience a core value,” says owner Jenna Boyo. “A wide range of ages among our customers means special considerations to ensure everyone has a great time.” Attention to noise levels in the arcade areas is an example of how Galaxy Zone puts the customer experience first, with management keeping arcade game noise levels dialled back to a manageable level and even offering noise-cancelling headsets on request.

The Key to Success: Building a Great Team

Jenna has been in the amusement industry for more than 20 years. Her passion is giving people access to fun adventures and creating smiles, and with the new Galaxy Zone facility, there is even more space for creating great memories. The key to success, she says, is the people around her. “My team is what keeps us successful,” Jenna says. “We have built a great family here and love what we do.” From all the glowing reviews online, it’s clear that what they are doing is really working.

So, if your group needs some adventure, drop in and see Jenna and her team. Planet Lazer and the brand-new Galaxy Zone can also be booked for private events or birthday parties. Galaxy Zone is located next to Planet Lazer at 1960 Springfield Road, Kelowna. Check out the Galaxy Zone website for details or call 250-717-8260 for upcoming events, such as their spectacular Halloween bash!
