KELOWNA - Kelowna’s Gospel Mission is helping the community this Thanksgiving by providing dinner to those in need.

It has taken weeks of preparation to prepare the annual Thanksgiving dinner which will take place on Monday, Oct. 9 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 259 Leon Ave., according to a media release.

People who stay at the emergency shelter or anyone in the community who is struggling to make ends meet are invited to attend the traditional Thanksgiving meal consisting of turkey, stuffing, ham, mashed potatoes, vegetables, cranberry sauce, rolls and pumpkin pie.

“Last year we served over 960 Thanksgiving dinners. With expenses going up and affordable housing extremely difficult to find we expect to serve more people than ever on Monday," executive director Randy Benson says. "We’re so grateful to the caring community in Kelowna for making it possible to provide meals on Thanksgiving and throughout the year.”

There will be over 50 volunteers serving meals.

"Kelowna’s Gospel Mission’s needs extend beyond Thanksgiving and any help is greatly appreciated," director of development Mike Morrison says in the release. "Please contact the Gospel Mission to donate, volunteer or give an in-kind gift."
