KELOWNA - With only a week left before Christmas, it's time to start shopping and get pictures taken with Santa. Luckily there are plenty of events happening around Kelowna this weekend to help get those items crossed off your to-do list.

The second annual Mission Hall Christmas Market is a great place to get last minute gifts. With a large variety of vendors including baked goods, the Market runs Friday and Saturday starting at 9 a.m. at Mission Hall on Lakeshore Road.

Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery on Bernard Avenue is holding an Ugly Sweater Christmas party Friday at 7 p.m. Dress up in your worst best sweater for cocktails and appetizers. There will also be prizes for best dressed. Tickets must be purchased in advance for the 19+ event. Visit this website for more info.

All throughout the weekend, K&R Marine is sponsoring Coats in a Boat, to help the Kelowna Boys and Girls Club supply jackets for kids and teenagers. There will be a real boat at 1721 Harvey Ave. they hope to fill by Sunday. Drop off any clothes in good condition starting at noon on Thursday.

On Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday this weekend, Ex Nihilo Vineyards on Camp Road in Lake Country will have a forest of decorated trees in support of KGH Giving Giggles Campaign. There will also be a vote on which tree is your favourite.

On Friday night, The OK Corral is holding a Country Christmas Countdown and car giveaway. See 12 artists over four nights for just $60 or $20 per night. Check out Jo Hikk, Jayme Knyx and Cynthia Leigh Ann and enter to win a new car at the same time.

This Friday and Saturday Third Space Coffee on Dolphin Avenue is holding Holiday Pop Up Mini Shops starting at 3 p.m. This one of a kind experience features local art, jewelry, accessories, warm drinks, snacks, live music and wares from local shops.

The weekend before Christmas is not complete without a visit to Santa Claus. On Friday and Saturday the big guy will be at the Salvation Army Thrift Store on Rutland Road offering photos in exchange for non-perishable food items for the Salvation Army. He will be there Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m and 3 p.m.

Start Saturday off right with a hearty breakfast with Santa at the Hotel Eldorado at 10 a.m. The breakfast buffet runs until 2 p.m. with Santa available for the kids from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Reservations are recommended.

Perhaps the biggest event of the weekend is the Lights of Christmas Paws at Waterfront Park Saturday between 4 p.m and 10 p.m. Hosted by TV star and celebrity dog trainer Brad Pattison, the event raises funds for the YMCA helping low income children and families. Bring your family and your four-legged friends to this awesome light show for only $12 per adult, $7 for students. Kids under five are free.

On Saturday night, the Kelowna Community Theatre is holding a Christmas concert called an OSO Christmas at 7:30 p.m. Sing along with an orchestra and professional vocalists singing old and new Christmas favourites.
