Kelowna's Burger King rooftop fire doused quickly

A mechanical malfunction with the Burger King exhaust system made for a smoky sight Saturday night.

Kelowna Fire Department platoon captain Dennis Miller said they were called in at  6:50 p.m. June 27, after numerous people called 911 calls reporting flames coming from the roof of a commercial fast food restaurant building in the 2000 block of Highway 97N.

On scene, the first arriving officer confirmed the building had a fire on the roof.

"The fire was quickly extinguished by the crews. Damage was limited to the exhaust system for the cooking appliances," Miller said in the press release.

"The cause of the fire was a mechanical malfunction with the unit."
