Bal Grewal, Kelowna lawyer and business owner, hopes to be BC United’s next candidate for the Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream riding in the 2024 provincial elections.

Sharing his vision for the riding and the values he holds close to his heart, Grewal first and foremost presents himself as a conservative candidate and that is why he has chosen to associate himself with BC United’s party.

Grewal ran for city councillor in the past elections, and after losing, says he was approached by Norm Letnick, the current MLA. As his loss allowed him to get involved in BC provincial politics, Grewal got to know the riding and what the party stands for.

"I showed up for all the events, showed up to meet all the people. It seems like I'm more conservative in a lot of my views and this is essentially a conservative party, really. In general, the party is pretty in line with my own views," he said.

As a lawyer and business owner who has gotten to know the community very well, Grewal says he has got what it takes to be the next riding’s MLA.

While other candidates have experience in politics already, Grewal says the party should be looking for a breath of fresh air.

“There's already people in Victoria that have been there doing this for 20, 30 years, I think you need someone with youth and energy because essentially we're the next generation )of politicians),” he says.

As Grewal hopes to represent BC United he is already preparing his electoral platform to be based on conservative values.

“Family, our values, our culture that we have here, preserving that,” he says. “Big issues for me are going to be fire protection, housing issues, protecting small businesses and (farmers)... I do want to distinguish and separate myself because I feel like everyone else is somewhat idealistic in their approach, I am coming from a very conservative approach.”

The party hasn't yet set a date for the nomination but as many as a dozen candidates are expected to be in the running.

The NDP hasn't made any candidate nomination information available and does not yet have a candidate.

The elections will take place on or before Oct. 19, 2024.
