iN VIDEO: Kelowna woman arrested after refusing to wear a mask, assaulting an officer

A woman was arrested after she allegedly refused to wear a mask in a Kelowna store and allegedly assaulted an officer.

Kelowna RCMP received a complaint from Value Village that the woman refused to wear a mask, and would not leave the store, Nov. 22 just after 4 p.m.

Despite efforts by responding officers, the woman refused to leave and was taken into police custody for causing a disturbance and obstructing a police officer, according to a release.

During the arrest, the woman allegedly struck the officers several times, screamed and refused to cooperate. A video of the incident was posted to Twitter.

The woman, 41, was released from custody on conditions for a future court date. The matter will be referred to the B.C. Prosecution Service to review for charges.

Kelowna RCMP emphasize that businesses must ask customers to wear face coverings and refuse service for non-compliance. The public is highly encouraged to respect provincial health orders for their safety and the safety of others.
