Kelowna volunteer fair to be held virtually

In light of COVID-19, Kelowna Community Resources is hosting its first Virtual Volunteer Fair to build connections between the community and organizations.

The volunteer fair has been going for the last 22 years, according to a Kelowna Community Resources news release.

“Knowing we would not be able to meet in person, we decided to film the interviews, to capture the stories from organizations about the impact they have in the community, the type of opportunities they offer and what type of skills and people they are looking for,” volunteer fair coordinator Stephanie Moore said in the release.

The Virtual Volunteer Fair has officially started with the posting a series of interviews with participating organizations on the Get Involved Central Okanagan Facebook page. The interviews were conducted over the past month, so are current with COVID updates on what opportunities exist right now, the resource centre said.

On Saturday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. the fair will hold a virtual gathering via Zoom that will also be live-streamed on Facebook. It features two workshops and a breakout room where volunteers and organizations get matched up.

Saturday's fair will also be the official launch of the new Okanagan VolunteerConnector that is a volunteer-centred platform to help match volunteers with relevant non-profits
