Kelowna will host the world’s most famous national men’s curling championship, the Montana’s Brier in 2025.
The championship will be at Kelowna’s Prospera Place, and will be the first time Kelowna has hosted the event since 1968, according to a press release from Curling Canada.
“We couldn’t be happier to see Kelowna get this opportunity to bring the Montana’s Brier back to the Okanagan after nearly 60 years,” Danny Lamoureux, interim CEO of Curling Canada said in the release.
Curling Canada assures curling fans the competition will be worth the wait.
Kelowna’s Mayor Tom Dyas says the city is prepared to host the event.
“Kelowna has a strong curling community with a long history of producing elite talent and hosting major curling events,” Dyas said in the release. “With one of the largest curling clubs in Canada, Kelowna is equipped with a strong team of volunteers to make the event memorable, while our entire community looks forward to showing our hospitality to fans, players, and officials.”
Kelowna is familiar with hosting big curling competitions, the city is hosting the 2023 Pan Continental Curling Championships, which begins this Sunday, Oct. 29, at the Kelowna Curling Club.
In 2021 Kelowna was going to host Montana's Brier, but due to the pandemic the competition was moved to Calgary.
“It was such a disappointment that the event couldn’t happen in 2021, but we know Kelowna will make up for lost time with a spectacular event in 2025,” Lamoureux said.
Curling fans have a while to wait for Montana’s Brier, but by all accounts it will be a championship to remember.
