KELOWNA - A new pilot project is being launched to upgrade water metres in Kelowna with technology that will allow consumers to monitor their water use.
The program will start with 200 homes throughout the city that will be retrofitted and tested before the program is rolled out.
“Our current water meter equipment continues to age and the ability to read the meter requires us to go onto each property,” water quality and customer care supervisor Ed Hoppe said in a City of Kelowna media release.
The new equipment will be read online and will be better at detecting leaks. The idea is to increase water conservation along with reducing costs.
Those selected for the trial will be contacted by Iconix Waterworks with information about the equipment and installation process.
Once it’s running, a web portal will go up online for customers to review their daily consumption.
