KELOWNA – A Kelowna girl will take a major step towards fulfilling her dream this weekend.

Ocean-Angelica Taylor, 17, will show dozens of her own garments in her first fashion show.

“This is my summer ‘18 collection so almost 50 pieces,” she says. “42 were hand made.”

Taylor works part time at a downtown Kelowna tea shop, but spends the rest of her time sewing, designing and planning.

“When I’m not at work I’m at my Nona’s, always designing, after work, before work, I wake up early,” she says. “I’ve known I wanted to be a designer since I started four or five years ago. This year my passion has grown a lot.”

Taylor’s skill is also growing, thanks to a dedicated mentor. Just one year ago she took sketches to her grandmother, who has been sewing her whole life.

“She taught me everything.”

Taylor may be relatively new to sewing but she has grown up around fashion. Her mother, Sabrina Notte, owns Déjà vu modeling agency and is a model herself. She helped Taylor start her own company - Wet Ink Clothing.

“I organized the whole show but my mom helped a lot,” she says.

More than 50 original creations will be shown at Ocean Taylor's first fashion show in Kelowna this weekend.

She'll be coordinating 34 models with more than 50 outfits, smoke machines, lighting, guest musicians and a surprise for the audience.

“You’ll just have to be there,” she says.

Ocean Taylor’s summer ’18 fashion show takes place at Déjà Vu Model Management on Cannery Lane Saturday, Jan. 27. Admission is by donation. Doors open at 7:15 p.m.
