Kelowna store employee reports sexual assault

RCMP Const. Kris Clark says a Kelowna man has been charged with sexually assaulting a downtown Kelowna store employee.

KELOWNA – A local man is being held in custody after an alleged sexual assault of a downtown employee last week.

Brian Spencer, 61, is being charged with two counts of sexual assault after he entered a store and began a conversation with a female employee at around 6:15 p.m.

RCMP Const. Kris Clark says the man rubbed against the young woman and grabbed her from behind.

“The staff member yelled at the man who left the store, before returning briefly,” he says. “Through the course of the investigation, police were able to identify a suspect and located the 61-year-old Kelowna man at his residence.”

Police have noticed similarities in the case with two previous reports of sexual assault that occurred mid-February and again March 5. Clark would not say if the victims in the first two cases were customers or employees but confirmed that in both women were “groped” by a man fitting the description.

There are currently no charges in the first two alleged assaults and police are asking any members of the public with information to call RCMP Const. Coutney at 250-762-3300 or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Spencer is 5’7 Caucasian man with a slim build and grey hair. He is balding and has blue eyes.
