A smoke alarm alerted residents of a fire in their single-family house in the Rutland area of Kelowna this morning, Jan. 24.

They were able to get out of the house unharmed.

Kelowna Fire Department got the callout at about 8:45 a.m. today, Jan. 24, to the home in the 700 block of Dougall Road South.

“The first arriving officer confirms a fire on the second floor of a single-family house,” a news release from the fire department says. “Crews knocked down the fire from the exterior and then entered and completed extinguishment.”

The fire is considered suspicious and is under investigation.

Kelowna Fire Department responded with four fire engines, 21 personnel and other equipment.
