Kelowna RCMP made a push to combat drug trafficking downtown this week, making arrests and seizing cash and drugs.

The Crime Reduction Unit did a two-day special project to take down drug dealers in the downtown core on April 22 and 23, according to a press release from police.

Police arrested 16 people for drug related crimes, arrested someone with a B.C. wide warrant, impounded a vehicle, seized 175 grams of drugs, seven cartons of illegal cigarettes, 25 pills, and roughly $2500 in cash.

“I’m very pleased with the success of this enforcement operation,” Sgt. Scott Powrie said in the release. “We continue to hear the concerns of downtown residents and businesses, and we remain committed to taking meaningful action to address those issues. Just as we saw in Rutland the week prior, our efforts not only resulted in tangible outcomes but also helped us gather information that will support future enforcement actions.”

Police urge the public to report crime. Non-emergencies can be reported online, in person at the detachment or by calling 250-762-3300.
