KELOWNA – RCMP have given the school district a heads up after a 14-year-old girl was offered a ride by a stranger in Kelowna yesterday afternoon.

Police say the girl was waiting in the area of Gordon Drive and Raymer Road around 3:44 p.m., Nov. 7, when she was approached by a man driving a cream-coloured SUV or crossover-style vehicle.

The teenaged girl says the man offered her a ride and said he had balloons, according to a RCMP media release. She didn’t respond and the man drove away.

The suspect vehicle was last seen turning northbound onto Gordon Drive, police say.

“The investigation into this incident continues,” Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says. “Kelowna RCMP school liaison officers have been engaged and police have been in contact with Central Okanagan School District officials.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300. Remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net or by texting your tip to CRIMES (274637) ktown.
