The Kelowna RCMP was on site today at Rutland Secondary School after a threat was made.

“There was a vague non-specific possible threat on social media which the school staff became aware of last night… suggesting that somebody might come and harm them,” said Central Okanagan Public Schools superintendent Kevin Kaardal. The school was not closed.

Police have concluded there was no threat but in light of the recent tragedy in Michigan where three students died after a school shooting, the school district responded “out of an abundance of caution and safety for students,” he said.

The threat was low risk, he said.

RSS was the only school that was investigated, he said. The person behind the social media post is under investigation and the school district isn’t sure if it’s a student, he said.
