Kelowna police officer slightly injured while arresting suspect

A suspect who police say climbed a fence to get onto the grounds surrounding Kelowna’s sewage treatment plant yesterday evening is alleged to have punched and kicked one of the arresting officers.

The incident happened just after 5:30 p.m. yesterday, March 1, at the Raymer Avenue treatment plant, according to an RCMP media release.

It was reported three men had climbed the fence. When police arrived they found a suspect who they charged with break and enter.

He refused to cooperate so was arrested for obstruction, RCMP say. Then he allegedly punched and kicked an officer. The officer suffered minor injuries and did not need medical treatment.

Other officers helped out and the suspect was taken to the RCMP detachment where he continued to try to assault officers.

The 33-year-old man has since been released from custody and the file turned over to Crown council to consider charges.

His identity has not been released.
