KELOWNA - Kelowna parking meter beaters are at it again, this time causing $6,000 damage for $100 of ill-gotten gains.

Kelowna RCMP received a report yesterday, May 8, just after 9 a.m., that a number of parking metres were damaged in downtown Kelowna. The suspect or suspects damaged the tops of the metres in order to gain access to the coins inside.

RCMP are seeking witnesses and are asking anyone with video surveillance in the area to conduct a review and come forward with any information that may be of assistance to the ongoing police investigation.

“This senseless act of vandalism caused an estimated $6,000 in damage, and officials believe that the thief only got away with approximately $100 in coins,” Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said in a press release.

Parking metres were discovered damaged in the 400 and 1300 blocks of Ellis Street, the 1200 and 1300 blocks of Water Street, the 500 and 600 blocks of Lawrence Avenue and the 400 block of Doyle Avenue.

Anyone with any additional information is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300. Or remain completely anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or by leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net.
