KELOWNA - A feature film called Lord Jones is Dead currently in post production has strong roots in the city of Kelowna.

The Canadian-South African co-production is directed by Andrew Holmes, who was introduced to film while attending Rutland Senior Secondary School. He graduated from the high school and eventually moved to Vancouver.

"The opportunity to direct this film all started when I returned from Vancouver to Kelowna to work on a television movie," Holmes says in a media release, adding it's where he met Austin Andrews who worked on the three films shot in Kelowna - A Wife's Nightmare, A Daughter's Nightmare and A Mother's Nightmare.

The pair worked on seven movies together before deciding to team up to make their own film.

Lord Jones Is Dead is a comedy feature set in the dangerous suburban streets of Johannesburg, South Africa.  The film, directed by Andrew and Austin, stars Canadian actor Chad Krowchuk (Man of Steel) and South African actors Daniel Janks (Ali) and Jonathan Pienaar (Blood Diamond) who play rival journalists trying to cover a very important political story. When the leads run dry, they decide to take matters into their own hands.

"Although we had an amazing script, we needed a little more support, hence I turned to a very close friend and Kelowna native, Adam Scorgie (All My Children, Fido, The Culture High) to produce the film," Holmes says.

Okanagan Film Commissioner Jon Summerland says they're very pleased with the kinds of connections happening in the region on productions they're bringing to the area.

"It's rewarding to see local born and raised talent moving into making international films based on relationships that began here," Summerland says. "These kinds of results continue to expand the Okanagan Film Commission's reputation as a significant player in the big picture of making a film, television and animation."

The movie is now in the hands of Holmes who is back in Vancouver putting the finishing touches to the film. Along with directing Lord Jones is Dead, Holmes has credits on other projects such as A Daughter's Nightmare, The Boy from Geita and the Games Maker as writer, producer and photographer.
