Kelowna motorcyclist killed in head-on collision

FILE PHOTO

A 30-year-old Kelowna woman was killed last night on Highway 33 east of Kelowna.

She was with three other motorcyclists who pulled out of the brake check area just east of the city, according to RCMP.

“One of the motorcyclists failed to keep right and collided head on with an east bound pickup truck that was legally passing a commercial vehicle in one of the two east bound lanes,” stated an email from the RCMP’s Central Okanagan Traffic Services.

The 50-year-old driver of the pickup was uninjured. He was alone in the vehicle.

The accident happened at about 7:45 p.m. yesterday, Aug. 26, and Highway 33 was closed for several hours while police investigated and the highway was cleared.

The collision is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call Central Okanagan Traffic Services at 250-491-5354.
