Interior Health has confirmed that someone who attended École KLO Middle School has tested positive for COVID-19.

Four new COVID-19 cases at Central Okanagan schools were announced yesterday, Nov. 18. In addition to KLO, this includes Mount Boucherie Secondary School, Okanagan Mission Secondary and Casorso Elementary.

Central Okanagan Public Schools reports that those with the virus are self isolating at home with support of local public health teams. Interior Health follows up with anyone potentially exposed to a confirmed case directly through contact tracing, according to the school district's press release.

The school district continues to implement the strict health and safety protocols and procedures that are in place so students and staff can continue to attend school as safely as possible.

Central Okanagan Public Schools will continue to work closely with Interior Health to determine if any additional actions are required, and to support ongoing communication to the KLO community. It reminds people to stay home if they have any symptoms.

Interior Health is currently listing 12 Central Okanagan schools that may have had COVID-19 exposures in the last two weeks.

At Mount Boucherie, a noticed posted on the school's website sites multiple individuals with COVID-19. Superintendent Kevin Kaardal said he is unable to give out the exact number, but said there has been only a few cases at the school.

"There's no outbreak at Mount Boucherie, there's been an exposure and remember exposures are coming from the community, that's how they're entering in (the schools,)" he said.

Mask policies have not changed in the schools, he said, adding that schools are encouraging school members to be diligent as the number of cases has increased province-wide.
