Kelowna man facing assault charges for spitting on Mountie

A Kelowna man allegedly spat in a local Mountie's face April 4, after being arrested for break and enter to a residence — something that's being taken very seriously in the time of COVID-19.

RCMP officers were called April 4 just after 4 p.m. to an empty and under-renovation residence in the 1300 block of Alder Court in Kelowna, after the owner heard sounds from within.

Frontline members of the Kelowna RCMP as well as RCMP Police Service Dog “Ice” and his handler attended and located a man inside the residence, Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy said in a press release.

He was placed under arrest but spit in the face of one of the police officers.

“Spitting on anyone is always a serious assault,” Noseworthy said. “But to do so in this current pandemic is particularly unacceptable.”

The B.C. Prosecution Service has approved charges of break and enter with intent, and aggravated assault on a police officer against Kelowna resident Jesse Hyde, 39. He remains in custody at this time.
