KELOWNA - A Kelowna man is facing serious criminal charges after allegedly lunging at a woman with a knife near Lakeshore Road on Sunday.

According to a press release, Kelowna RCMP received a complaint on July 28 at 3:52 p.m. about a man allegedly wielding a knife and lunging at a woman at the 4000 block of Lakeshore Road near Bluebird Road. The woman narrowly managed to dodge the incoming attack.

The suspect, 38-year-old Deven Christopher Rooney, fled on foot when the police showed up, tracked by canines through the woods. Police were able to track him down in the closet of a nearby residential building.

Rooney was taken in custody and brought to the courts on July 29. He was charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Anyone who witnessed the alleged attack is asked to contact Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.
