KELOWNA – A Kelowna man who won $500,000 playing the Extra on his Lotto 6/49 ticket wants to help make the world a better place.

Stuart Smithson had the four winning Extra numbers in the July 23 Lotto 6/49 draw, according to a media release from the B.C. Lottery Corporation.

Smithson says the win will allow him to focus on philanthropic work.

“I feel motivated after winning the lottery,” he says in the release. “I can now tackle things like supporting refugees, or setting up a sustainable legacy fund.”

Smithson also plans to take his wife to Ireland for their wedding anniversary.

“The timing of this is perfect because August is our wedding anniversary,” he says.

The winning lottery ticket was purchased at the Save On Foods on Cooper Road in Kelowna.
