Four Kelowna fire engines and 22 firefighters rushed to a 911 call about a fire in a bedroom in a single-family home this morning.

Fire crews were call to a home in the 2300 block of Silver Place at 6 a.m. today, Dec. 19, according to a Kelowna Fire Department news release..

“First arriving crew reported nothing showing but, after talking with the residents, it was determined that a mattress was on fire in one of the bedrooms,” the release says. “Crews then went into the structure and found a mattress that was smouldering.”

It was quickly extinguished and crews checked to make sure it had not spread.

There was minor damage to the building but significant smoke damage. Four people in the house made it out safely.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but is not considered suspicious.
