Kelowna firefighters protect business, prevent suspicious car fire from spreading

KELOWNA - A fire that started in a vehicle threatened to spread to a nearby vehicle repair shop in Rutland until Kelowna Fire Department arrived.

Arriving just after midnight, they found the car fully involved and the heat had already busted a window to the building on Froelich Road and fire was spreading inside, says Platoon Capt. Steve Wallick.

"Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire outside, breached the door of the building and extinguished the fire inside," he says. "The car was totally destroyed. A car parked nearby sustained some minor damage as did the cinder block building. There were no injuries."

The fire is suspicious and RCMP are investigating.
