Kelowna Fire Department responded to suspicious bush fire in the downtown

There was a bush fire in downtown Kelowna.

Several people called to report a grass fire near Ellis Street and Manhattan Driver around 7:15 p.m. last night, March 3, according to a release from the Kelowna Fire Department.

The first crew on scene discovered an area of grass on fire that was about 10 feet by 20 feet in size, located on the Sunset Park Trail behind Telus Park. The fire made its way to two large pine trees.

“Given the fire’s location, crew had to advance approximately 350 feet of hose line to reach the fire,” the release says. “It was quickly extinguished.”

It has been deemed suspicious.

The total response from the fire department included two engines, a command vehicle and nine personnel. The RCMP also attended.
