Kelowna fire crews quickly extinguish kitchen fire

FILE PHOTO

A kitchen fire at a home in Kelowna this afternoon did significant damage.

Kelowna firefighters were called to the home in 800 Block of Coronado Crescent at approximately 2:30 p.m. today, Jan. 28, according to a Kelowna Fire Department media release. When they arrived on scene, firefighters saw smoke billowing from the roof and soffit area of the home.

Firefighters entered through the front door and saw the fire was in the kitchen of the single-family home.

They quickly put out the blaze, but not before the fire caused significant damage to the kitchen and resulted in smoke damage to the rest of the house, although no structural damage was noted.

Platoon Capt. John F. Kelly said in the release the fire is not believed to be suspicious, but the cause is undetermined and will be investigated further.
