Kelowna has elected a new school board trustee.
The city released unofficial results showing that Wayne Broughton received the most votes for the vacant school board trustee position in yesterday’s byelection for the Central Okanagan Board of Education.
The results are preliminary until the official results are declared this coming week and the by-election was required after sitting Trustee Rolli Cacchioni passed away in March.
"I promise I will work to uphold the principles you voted for as I work with the Board of Education as a new trustee," Broughton said in a Facebook post.
"I also want to represent the voices of this community, so to those who did not vote for me I hope we can connect so that I can hear your concerns."
The winning candidate will serve through to the next general local election in October 2022.
The candidates received the following vote totals:
Wayne Broughton – 1,033
Joyce Brinkerhoff – 739
Peter Pagliocchini – 228
Chelsea Frank – 42
