Kelowna crews extinguish suspicious hedge fire

KELOWNA - Fast-acting crews put out a hedge fire in Kelowna earlier today, but now police are investigating the cause of the brief blaze.

According to a press release, Kelowna Fire Dispatch received a call about a fire at 475 Woods Road at around 3:28 p.m on May 19. The first unit at the scene found an actively burning row of cedar hedges.

Nine personnel working with two engines and a command vehicle promptly extinguished the fire, but not before it damaged a nearby house. Ambulance services treated one person for minor injuries at the scene.

The fire is considered suspicious and the RCMP is currently investigating it.
