Homelessness strategy

Council received an overview of current initiatives related to housing strategies and best practice research, key local findings and a proposed framework to develop a strategy to address homelessness. Full report available at kelowna.ca/council.

Secondary Suites bylaw approved

Council adopted a bylaw that permits secondary suites within all single family dwellings in Kelowna, with the exception of Gallagher’s Canyon. The change will help provide more affordable housing stock in Kelowna with minimal impact to neighbourhoods without the need for new infrastructure because the secondary suites are contained within existing single-family homes.

Hospital area parking

Council approved the Hospital Area On-Street Parking Plan, including the introduction of pay parking on some streets adjacent to Kelowna General Hospital, overnight Resident Parking Only restrictions on nearby residential streets and changes to existing time restrictions. More information at kelowna.ca/parking.

Heritage project proposal

Council authorized a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Kelowna and Worman Commercial for the adaptive re-use of the Surtees Property in a manner that meets the City’s heritage and park plans for the site.
