An annual Kelowna Christmas parade is going to travel across the city fundraising for families in need.

The Grenfell Road Christmas Parade, which originally started as a Halloween haunted house, announced its latest parade routes for its third event in Glenmore, Central Kelowna and Rutland, Nov. 5.

Last year, they raised $4,000 for Mamas for Mamas and they’re hoping to raise $5,000 this year, said co-organizer Candace Banks.

Roughly 10 vehicles have signed up so far and that’s only after the recent announcement, Banks said.

“We’re hoping for a really good turnout this year.”

The parade takes place Dec. 9 and 10 starting in Rutland at Springvalley Middle School at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Then, on Saturday, the parade will take begin at 945 Grenfell Road, travelling around Central Kelowna from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. before making its way to Glenmore at roughly 6:30 p.m., beginning at 550 Yates Road and ending at roughly 9 p.m.

They’ll also head through the beloved Candy Cane Lane on Rutland’s Collison Road, Gramiak Road and Mary Court.

They’ve had some setbacks this year with only two organizers but Banks said they persevere because they want to support local Kelowna families and Mamas for Mamas.

“Every year, their list gets bigger and bigger at Christmas time,” she said.

Times are estimates depending on traffic and full route maps can be found through the Christmas parade’s Facebook page.
