One of two childcare facilities operated by Building Blocks Educare in Kelowna has temporarily closed.

The campus at 1605 Gordon Dr. is shut down but its Sutherland Avenue facility is not affected, according to an Interior Health news release.

The closure is voluntary “while it resolves staffing impacts related to COVID-19,” medical health officer Dr. Silvina Mema wrote in the news release.

“We are working closely with Building Blocks childcare centre on a cluster of COVID-19 cases affecting a select group of its childcare centre community,” she wrote.

“Cases of COVID-19 in the childcare setting are not unexpected. Interior Health public health is actively working with the childcare centre and we appreciate the excellent co-operation from their administrators and staff.”

She noted that Interior Health will contact people connected to the facility if they need to self-isolate.
