UPDATE: No explosives found in suspicious package left outside Kelowna business

Original Publication Date July 05, 2021 - 1:22 PM

There were not explosives in the suspicious package found outside a Kelowna business this morning.

Businesses were cordoned off and evacuated in the 100 block of Davie Road in Rutland just after 11 a.m. today, July 5, outside one of the businesses.

While waiting for the RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit to arrive and check to see if the package poses a threat, a Kelowna RCMP police dog gave the package the all clear, according to an RCMP media release.

Davie Road was closed between Highway 33 and Hollydell Road, and Saskatoon Road was closed between Davie Road and Dundas Road. They have since been reopened.

The investigation into the origin of the package remains ongoing, RCMP said.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or by leaving a tip online at crimestoppers.net.
