The Kelowna Art Gallery is seeking artist proposals for the new ArtMart vending machine.

The vending machine will showcase original work in a variety of mediums that focus on community engagement by artists for purchase from $5 to $50.

“We encourage artists to think outside of the box and to dream big while creating something little,” said Christine May, curator at the Kelowna Art Gallery.

“Our hope is that the ArtMart provides a vehicle for artists to conjure up something new, engage and delight our visitors, and financially support local artists,” she said.

Art mediums that can be found in the ArtMart include jewelry, pins, games, sculptural objects, stamps, and stickers.

Artists that are selected to participate in the program will receive an honorarium, funds to assist with their work, and commission on all sales of their work.

The ArtMart was a successful concept from the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art, according to a Kelowna Art Gallery press release.

“While we have had previous editions of the ArtMart here, this will be the first time we have hosted the vending machine at a neighbouring location. We’re excited about this partnership with the Kelowna Art Gallery and can’t wait to see what their members come up with,” said the artistic director at the Alternator, Lorna McParland.

Artist’s submissions are welcome until Dec. 3.

The ArtMart vending machine will be located at the Kelowna Art Gallery from Jan. 15 to April 15, 2022.

The project has been made possible from support of the Central Okanagan Foundation.
