Kelowna apartment fire leaves three households homeless

Eight adults, along with three children and their pets are homeless following an apartment fire in Kelowna last night.

Kelowna Fire Department received a general fire alarm around 10 p.m. yesterday, Dec. 23, reporting activated fire alarms at an apartment building in the 500 block of Glenmore Road.

Crews were dispatched as reports came in of smoke coming from a unit on the third floor. Firefighters arrived to find a sprinkler activation had taken place.

Access was gained to the third floor where a fire was discovered in a room in one of the units. The sprinkler system had suppressed the fire and prevented its spread, however water damage rendered three units uninhabitable.

Eight adults, three children, one dog and three cats were provided support from emergency services.

The fire is believed to have been accidental in cause.

No injuries were suffered in the incident.
